Okay, I just have to write about this because it doesn't make sense and I've experienced this one time too many. Had a guy call me about helping me put my url on listings out there. What he said made sense and I was listening to him. However as we continued talking I realized he was actually talking DOWN to me.
NOTE: YOU CAN NOT INSULT THE POTENTIAL CLIENT AND EXPECT THEM TO LISTEN TO YOU!!!!
It reached a point I could feel the tension on the phone as he tried to convince me I needed his services, especially when I begun to ask questions. To tell you how bad he sounded he began to use "dear" while addressing me, and not as an endearment but like a parent explaining something to a hard of understanding child. I kept my calm because it was so not worth it, but his disrespect seeped through the phone. He threw in there that he was from MIT, he threw in there that he would become big some day and beyond me and when I finally told him I would need to churn through his information and get back to him, he literally hung up on me before I could exhale. I guess MIT forgot to teach social skills??
My thoughts on customer service:
Remember whatever you are selling might be great but in the end of it all you are dealing with people, and the age old courtesy, manners, respect, gentleness will get you a long way, than the knowledge or whatever you have. Why? Because whatever you offer that you think is so great? Somewhere in this United States of America, or in this global market, someone, somewhere is offering the same and is your potential competition.
Now i'm done.
